As the Democratic Republic of Congo marks fifty years of independence, ongoing atrocities are still being carried out against its people who are still suffering from the effects of the genocide in 1994 as related in the following article from The Guardian. 

Virago publishes A Long Way From Paradise by Leah Chishugi in November, a memoir about how she survived the Rwandan genocide. Leah now lives in the UK and has set up a charity to help women and children in eastern Congo. For more information, please visit Everything is a Benefit.
