From Mad Men to Peyton Place

How thrilling to hear the men – or freelance creatives as they are called – discussing the plot of Peyton Place by Grace Metalious in the most recent episode of Mad Men! As a fan of this Virago Modern Classic and the cult TV series – it made my weekend.
First published in 1956, Peyton Place is a searing portrait of small-town hypocrisy. Vanity Fair called it 'a crafty, page-turning brew of illicit sex, secret lives and public drunkeness'. Sounds like an episode of Mad Men doesn't it? With a wonderful introduction by India Knight, it really is a must-read.
