Happy New Year

From the top of Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath I watched as hundreds of Chinese lanterns were launched at midnight on New Year’s Eve. A beautiful sight and felt like a huge number of great hopes for 2011– despite all the gloom.
2011 is going to be a good year for Virago: we have the new Virago Bookclub to look forward to and World Book Night (deadline is 17th of January, visit www.worldbooknight.org) and of course we’ve got some staggeringly good books coming along. So I am going to begin the year in Pollyanna mode: today we can be happy they haven’t yet put VAT on books.
