The Virago Book Club is Open

Dear Readers
We’re delighted to announce the launch of what we think is going to be an exciting new venture. Of course there are many reading groups around and have been for a long time, but what's going to be different about The Virago Book Club is that readers who subscribe will be getting news of books hot off the press and, even better, there will be some live events, with author appearances. We plan to pick a book every other month – a mix of paperbacks and hardbacks. Most will be new, from the frontlist, but we will also be dipping into our backlist, especially the Virago Modern Classics.
The initial selection of titles will come from us and will be drawn from the books that are getting a real in-house buzz. But as time goes on, we will want to hear from you. We know that Virago readers have a lot to think – and say! – about books. We are hugely grateful for the loyalty you've shown us over the years and we don't take that for granted, I can tell you.
When we publish a book we feel you looking interestedly over our shoulder. So roll up, sign up, speak up. The Virago Book Club is open.

I run a book group and we have just read 4 of the Booker shortlist 2010. We are looking for new books for the spring and summer. So looking forward to hearing more about your publications.

Thanks for a marvellous Book Club event with Linda Grant last night. I learnt such a lot about the novel writing process. Linda was very informative, very interesting – but also very natural. A really rewarding evening!
