There was an interesting article on the Guardian website on Friday about girls' toys in the run-up to Christmas which adds and interesting new side to the argument thatNatasha Walter discusses in her critically acclaimed book Living Dolls.
According to recently published research by campaign group Pink Stinks we're seeing the 'pink tide' recede. Traditionally, pink toys and clothes were just about all young girls were offered – tiaras, princess outfits, toy dolls, pink baby clothes and the like. But these days, according to the group who campaign for 'real role models', for the first time we're perhaps as likely to see costumes such as police women or doctors' outfits in the girls' section. And the twin sister team behind Pink Stinks, Abi and Emma Moore say that they've been inundated with support from people the world over.
What do you think - is the tide changing? Please post your comments below, we'd love to hear what you think.
