Virago celebrates the life of Elizabeth Jenkins

We've had the sad news that Elizabeth Jenkins passed away this week, in her 105th year.
Virago Press are proud to publish The Tortoise and the Hare, the tragic and exquisite story of a husband's betrayal of his wife in middle age. Reprinted in 2008 with a new introduction by Hilary Mantel and an afterword by Carmen Callil, this is widely considered Jenkins' masterpiece. Read an extract.
